Katie Going with the Flow in San Francisco

Last summer, my 16-year old daughter Katie and I planned a two-week trip from Charlottesville, Virginia, to Portland, Oregon. Our scheduled departure flight from RIC to PDX was delayed to the point  where we would not make our connection and make it to Portland in the same day. We would need to spend the night somewhere between Richmond and Portland. We chose to change our connection to SFO and had a half-day to explore San Francisco on our way to Portland. We slept in a hostel and walked around several neighborhoods the next day, before heading back to SFO to fly to PDX. It was an unexpected and unplanned part of our trip, and certainly a highlight!
